I'm Vinicius Freire. I live in Natal, Brazil, and I have worked as a software engineer since 2019, always remotely. I like to understand how things work from end to end, from the screen a person touches to the server that stores the data, and that curiosity is what shaped the path I took to get here.
I started in 2019 at a data company, taking care of code that existed before I arrived, which taught me to read other people's systems before writing my own. That same year I began leading projects at a software house, writing down with the clients what would be built, and later I worked as a frontend developer at an insurtech in Australia. Since 2022 I have been at Layers Education, on a marketplace used by schools and families. That is where I moved down from the screens into the backend, the message queues and the infrastructure, because that was where the product needed people most. Today I move between those layers comfortably, and that is the part of my work I enjoy the most.
I prefer writing to talking. Before I build something, I record what was decided and why, so whoever comes next does not have to ask me. I make small pull requests, the kind you can review calmly, and I review my colleagues' with the same attention I would like to receive. I take it seriously when a mistake of ours costs someone money. A duplicate charge, for example, is the kind of failure I would rather make impossible in the design of the system than fix later through support. And I like teaching. Helping people who are starting out is one of the parts of the job I enjoy most.
I am still at Layers, and outside working hours I am studying Systems Analysis and Development at PUC Minas, which I expect to finish in 2027. At work, the new topic is putting language models into production without giving up predictability. I speak Portuguese and English, and I spent the first half of 2017 in a language exchange program in Vancouver, Canada, which made me comfortable on teams that work in English.
If you would like to talk, the fastest way is the form in contact.md. I reply within 24 hours on business days.
